The musicMagpie re-commerce proposition
The Group’s vision is to lead the circular economy revolution by giving customers a smart, sustainable and trusted way to buy, sell and rent tech, disc media and books. We are driving growth in the rental of refurbished consumer technology devices – the Rental revolution!
Receive
Once items arrive at the Group’s logistics hub, items are sorted for grading and, if applicable, refurbishment. Functional tests of technology devices are performed using specialised third-party software and hardware tools and the condition of the item is compared to the description provided by the selling customer. The Group also checks every device received against the National CheckMEND Register, a system that searches global databases containing billions of serial numbered items to ensure that electronic goods are authentic when being bought or sold. Physical media is checked for quality.
Repair and Refurbish
Refurbishment is mainly applicable to smartphones, and includes replacement screens and batteries, where required. The Group utilises specialist software to ensure erasure of all personal data from previous owners and restores factory settings before resale.
Refurbishment for disc media items, such as CDs, DVDs and video games mainly comprise buffing discs and replacement of damaged cases. Books cannot be refurbished.
Shop
The Group sells largely through its own platforms, musicMagpie in the UK and Decluttr in the US, their respective mobile applications, and via eBay, Amazon and Back Market in both the UK & US. In the US, the Group began selling disc media & books on Walmart.com from January 2023, followed by refurbished consumer technology products in March 2023. Items are simultaneously listed on the Group’s own platforms as well as multiple international locales of the Amazon, eBay and Back Market stores. The Group’s algorithm sets prices across all these platforms and manages stock simultaneously across all listings. To complement the Group’s stock of pre-owned items, it also sells a broad range of new CDs and DVDs, and have a relationship with Apple enabling the Group to sell new Apple goods on the Group's platforms. The Group also has wholesale partnerships with a small number of high street retailers for distribution of the Group’s products in their stores.
