musicMagpie ends its NHS fundraising scheme after raising £200k
For the last three months, Stockport-based online recommerce business has been running a huge fundraising initiative for NHS Charities Together, to help the nation’s health service through the pandemic.
This week the scheme comes to an end having raised a significant £181k in three months. The company decided to top up the amount to an amazing £200,000 to recognise the efforts of its entire team in dealing with such a huge volume over the previous quarter.
Supported by a surge in demand for its products as people look to work, stay connected and be entertained from home, musicMagpie pledged to donate £1 for every single item of consumer tech it purchased from its customers, as well as donating £1 for each refurbished tech item sold on its online store.
The company has also donated over 200 tablets to health authorities across the UK, including 25 into Stepping Hill hospital in Stockport, to help keep people connected to loved ones when they need to the most, coupled with over 3,000 children’s books which have been donated to local community groups across Manchester and the surrounding areas.
Following the success of this initiative, the company has announced it is going to be continuing a scheme to a similar extent with a new primary charity partner, with the next one being chosen to align to its sustainability values and focus in this key environmental area.
Steve Oliver, CEO of musicMagpie, commented: “We’re thrilled to have raised such a significant amount for NHS Charities Together and are proud as a business to have been able to support our brilliant health service over the last few months.
“Following the success of this scheme, we have decided to continue it with a similar initiative and other charity partners now and into the future. Sustainability is a key focus for us as a business as we continue to operate under the mantra of ‘Smart for you, Smart for the Planet’ - we are particularly focused on the issue of reducing e-waste by encouraging our customers to both buy and sell with us, so we’d like to support an organisation dedicated to help saving our planet, as our next endeavour.”
